Here is a closer look at the Luxo Jr. Collectable Desk Lamp set that will be released on November 10th, along side the other editions of Up and Monsters, Inc. It includes a working Luxo Jr. lamp (with a base that will hold all of your Pixar Blu-rays), and the 4 disc Up Blu-ray.

It’s going to retail for $199, but I’m sure it will be less at big retailers. Which version of Up are you going to buy?

Monsters Inc. and Up Available for Pre-order

Pete Docter’s two classic films Monsters, Inc. and Up are going to be released on DVD and Blu-ray on November 10th. They’ll be available as one disc DVD sets, or as 4 disc Blu-ray/DVD/digital copy sets. I will definitely be picking up the Blu-ray sets the day they come out. Even if you haven’t made the jump to high definition yet, I highly suggest going ahead and getting these. You’ll have the film on DVD and as a digital copy, but you’ll also have the Blu-ray for later use.

The Up Blu-ray set sounds amazing, containing both Partly Cloudy and the new Dug’s Special Mission shorts, as well as a whole lot of documentaries chronicling the making of the film, and the filmmakers’ journey to South America.

You can pre-order Up and Monsters, Inc. at Amazon.com now!

The Toys Are Back in Town

I thought the amazing-looking Toy Story Collection toys were not going to be released until October, but this weekend I stumbled across them in my local Target! It was very cool seeing a whole Toy Story section in the toy aisle again, and I desperately wanted to snatch them all up. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on them soon and do some written reviews as well as some video reviews, but until now, here is a preview.

Disney Buys Monsters Inc. 2 Domain Name

More rumors are swirling that Disney and Pixar are indeed planning a Monsters Inc. sequel. Jim Hill Media reports that among other domains, Disney has purchased Monsters2.com. Disney’s domain name purchases have been a pretty reliable source of unannounced movie news in the past, so I’d say Monsters Inc. 2 is a little closer to being announced.

John Lasseter Signed Wine Bottle

This is the last vacation-related post, I promise. Last Thursday, which happened to be my birthday, we drove to Sonoma Valley to experience wine country. Later that night we stopped at a pizza place called The Red Grape. A few minutes after sitting there, I looked over and realized there was a wine bottle signed by John Lasseter!

John lives near Sonoma in Glen Ellen and recently started a winery of his own. I really wanted to slip that bottle in my wife’s purse, it would have made a good birthday present.

I Visited Pixar (From the Outside)

| Posted in News

If you’ve taken a look at the About page on Pixar Fanboy, you’ve seen that picture. This was taken last week in front of Pixar in Emeryville, California. As I mentioned in the last article, we went to San Francisco for vacation. One thing I was super excited about from the beginning was knowing I’d could visit Pixar, even if it was only from the street.

We kind of felt like dorks standing in the 55 degree weather on a Friday morning taking pictures of each other in front of the gate, but it was worth it! They’re doing a lot of construction, and there was a sign that said it was for “Pixar Phase 2.” I know there are plenty of people who go there every day and don’t think anything of it, but it was still special to us!

My Visit to Fenton’s Creamery

Remember the ice cream parlor that Russell mentions eating Butter Brickle with his Dad in Up? It’s called Fenton’s Creamery, it’s in Oakland, California, and my wife and I went there last week. Pete Doctor couldn’t have found a better establishment to promote in his film, because its been a family owned business for 115 years, and has the best ice cream in the world.

Well, while I was vacationing in another city in California, the San Diego Comic-Con was going on, and a lot of great Pixar news was building up in my RSS reader. After getting home and sorting through it all, I thought it would be valuable to share all the links I found interesting.

  • SlashFilm has great interviews with John Lasseter (featuring a surprise appearance by Hayao Miyazaki) and Lee Unkrich.
  • The Toy Story/Toy Story 2 3D double-feature teaser trailer is now online.
  • Finally, some Up toys!

Up! Cosbaby Set - Carl and Russell
  • Disney Etc. has a great roundup of the amazing looking Toy Story LEGO sets that are coming out soon. I will be honest, I never thought that Toy Story LEGO could look that awesome. I will be extremely broke when these come out.

Luxo Lamp Blu-ray Collection Revealed for UK

| Posted in News

luxo

The always-awesome Upcoming Pixar reported a couple days ago about a “Luxo Lamp Collection” Blu-ray set that was popping up on various UK retail sites, and now they’ve found an image of it. It looks like it comes with a replica (or real version) of the Luxo lamp, as well as a few Pixar Blu-rays. Although I would hate doubling up on any Pixar Blu-rays I already own, I wouldn’t mind having it for the lamp. Will it come to the US? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Lou Romano, art director and voice of Linguini at Pixar, has just posted some more of his wonderful color script for Up. I love seeing how close to the finished picture a lot of these concepts are. Make sure to head over to his blog and check them out!

I am just a fan, hence the site's name. If you work at Pixar and would like to offer me a job as a director, animator, cook, janitor, or resident fanboy, please contact me and my wife and I will make arrangements to move to Emeryville as soon as possible.
