When the space shuttle Discovery landed last week, it brought back a Buzz Lightyear action figure it had been carrying. It was part of a Disney and NASA partnership to encourage the study of science, and they took some cool video of Buzz floating around in zero gravity.

Pixar Ant-Man Movie? Edgar Wright Says No

September 10th, 2009 | Posted in News

Pixar Ant-Man

The blogosphere was flooded with speculation in the past two days about Pixar making good on the Disney/Marvel deal by making an Ant-Man movie. According to SlashFilm, someone from CHUD quickly got in contact with Edgar Wright, who has been developing an Ant-Man movie for the past few years, and got an official answer.

“The news that Pixar is involved is not wholly accurate and a little premature to comment on. I love Pixar’s work more than anyone and indeed would love to collaborate with them.”

It’s a “No”, but it doesn’t sound like the idea is completely out of the question. No one knows what Pixar will be doing, if they’re doing anything, with the Marvel brand, but I would love to see them collaborate with Edgar Wright.

What Marvel characters would you like to see brought to life by Pixar?

Sulley Vinyl Review

Thanks to the fine folks at Sideshow Collectibles, I got my hands on a great vinyl figure of everyone’s favorite blue and purple spotted monster, Sulley. As you may know, Sideshow is a purveyor of fine statues, collectible figures, busts, and dioramas. They have many products featuring Disney characters, but they also feature many fine Pixar collectibles, especially the upcoming vinyls from Up and Toy Story.

The Monsters Inc. Sulley VCD figure stands an impressive 8.67″ tall and is render in amazing detail. It is manufactured by Medicom, and the quality is top notch. Sully is striking a contemplative pose, and looks great on a desk or a shelf.

Disney Buys Marvel – John Lasseter Excited

August 31st, 2009 | Posted in News

The big news today was of course that Disney is buying Marvel Entertainment for a whopping $4 Billion. Unlike most Marvel Fanboys on Twitter today, I’ve been really excited about this news. I think Disney will be able to handle the Marvel brands in a great way.

I didn’t, however, expect to hear anything about Pixar, but an article on Film School Rejects detailing the Disney/Marvel investors conference call points out that John Lasseter has met with Marvel about a Pixar team up.

This could have been taken out of context, because Lasseter is in charge of more than just Pixar now, but I think something will come out of Pixar with the popular Marvel characters someday. Will it be a feature film? Maybe not, but think of that shiny new studio they’re building in Canada that was going to focus more on shorts and television content. That’d be the perfect place to make some official Pixar/Marvel animation, and I think that is pretty exciting.

Update I found a direct quote from the call.

When asked about a Pixar/Marvel team-up:

“We won’t co-brand, but they will collaborate. When we put these two creative groups together. Sparks will fly.”

John Lasseter on the Toy Story Definitive Toy Line

August 27th, 2009 | Posted in Toys

Disney sent me a heads up about this new series of videos in which John Lasseter discusses the Toy Story Definitive toy line. It is a seven part series that kicks off today, and will feature two new videos a week. Don’t miss the chance to be the first to hear Lasseter talk about his inspiration and why the Definitive toy line is a collectors dream.

You can keep an eye on the YouTube Disney Living channel for more, or just check back here.

August 21st, 2009 | Posted in Games

Toy Story Mania for iPhone was released not too long ago, and it’s basically a minified version of the upcoming Wii release. I downloaded it a few days ago, but have only had a chance to play it once. I was thinking it would be nice to record a video of the gameplay for the site, but someone already did, so here you go!

I’m happy to give you Pixar Fanboy’s first book review: Pixarpedia: A Complete Guide to the World of Pixar…and Beyond!. Pixarpedia is a book being released by DK Publishing on August 31st. They were kind enough to send me a review copy early, and I’m glad they did. This book is a delight, and a must have for all Pixar fans, young and old.

It’s a very large, hardcover book with beautiful glossy pages filled edge-to-edge with photos. It’s around 350 pages long, and features a forward by Andrew Stanton. Pixarpedia is divided into three parts. The first contains:

  • The Foreword by Andrew Stanton
  • In the Beginning – A brief history of Pixar
  • Making Movies – general knowledge about Pixar
  • How to Make a Pixar Movie
  • Timeline – a timeline of Pixar’s work from 1986-2011

The second and largets section of the book is The Movies…. In this section, each Pixar feature film and many of their shorts are given their own chapters. The final section of the book , …and Beyond, is filled with themed pages and behind the scenes facts for each film.

Lorelay Bove is an artist who interned at Pixar and is currently working at Disney Animation Studios. She recently illustrated a Toy Story picture book titled Ride ‘Em Cowboy that hits store shelves on September 1st.

The only description I could find of the book online is from Copperfield’s Books.

“Everyone’s favorite “Toy Story” characters are back in action. Join Andy’s toys for a rodeo match up between Woody the cowboy and Jessie the cowgirl. Buzz Lightyear, Bullseye, Slinky Dog, and the rest of the gang add to the thrills. Full color.”

I am just a fan, hence the site's name. If you work at Pixar and would like to offer me a job as a director, animator, cook, janitor, or resident fanboy, please contact me and my wife and I will make arrangements to move to Emeryville as soon as possible.
