Pixar Pook-a-Looz

No, Pixar Pook-a-Looz isn’t a crazy festival I’m having in my backyard or a dance I invented. Pook-a-Looz are the new, cute, urban-inspired plush toys from Disney featuring 30+ characters, including my favorites above, Woody and Buzz.

The Pook-a-Looz are around $12, so I’m going to at least pick up Woody and Buzz. They also have all the classic Disney characters, as well as some from Nightmare Before Christmas and The Muppets. As far as I know, Woody and Buzz are the only two Pixar Pook-a-Looz, but please correct me if I’m wrong.

What other Pixar Characters would you love to see in Pook-a-Looz form? My first two choices would be Mike Wazowski and Sully from Monsters, Inc.

Sideshow Collectibles Vinyl Sulley Review

Thanks to the fine folks at Sideshow Collectibles, I got my hands on a great vinyl figure of everyone’s favorite blue and purple spotted monster, Sulley. As you may know, Sideshow is a purveyor of fine statues, collectible figures, busts, and dioramas. They have many products featuring Disney characters, but they also feature many fine Pixar collectibles, especially the upcoming vinyls from Up and Toy Story.

The Monsters Inc. Sulley VCD figure stands an impressive 8.67″ tall and is render in amazing detail. It is manufactured by Medicom, and the quality is top notch. Sully is striking a contemplative pose, and looks great on a desk or a shelf.

He comes in a sturdy box and if you’re the type who keeps collectibles boxed up, it’ll still look great in your collection. If you’re like me you’ll want to display it out of the box, and if you’re like John Lasseter, you’ll of course buy two and enjoy the best of both worlds. The sculpt on this figure is very detailed, and actually looks furry. The paint job is equally impressive, and his polka dots seem to fade into the rest of his fur as they do in the film.

If you’re in the market for any high-end Pixar collectibles, I highly suggest picking up the Sulley VCD figure from Sideshow, you won’t be disappointed.

John Lasseter on the Toy Story Definitive Toy Line

Disney sent me a heads up about this new series of videos in which John Lasseter discusses the Toy Story Definitive toy line. It is a seven part series that kicks off today, and will feature two new videos a week. Don’t miss the chance to be the first to hear Lasseter talk about his inspiration and why the Definitive toy line is a collectors dream.

The Toys Are Back in Town

I thought the amazing-looking Toy Story Collection toys were not going to be released until October, but this weekend I stumbled across them in my local Target! It was very cool seeing a whole Toy Story section in the toy aisle again, and I desperately wanted to snatch them all up. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on them soon and do some written reviews as well as some video reviews, but until now, here is a preview.

The toys I saw this weekend were mostly of Buzz Lightyear. My local Target had both the $35 Buzz as well as the $50 Ultimate Buzz. Normally I wouldn’t want a huge, electronic figure like the Ultimate Buzz, but one very cool feature that I hadn’t heard reported is that he comes in a replica of his packaging from the movie! It looked great, and would be very cool sitting on a shelf.

I also saw the buckets of Army Men, which also match their packaging from the movie. I didn’t see any prices, but I’m assuming these are going to be pretty affordable. Also on hand was a whole slew of products I hadn’t seen online yet, such as the “cutesy” Toy Story figures up above. They almost look like Disney’s answer the the Hasbro Super Hero Squad and Galactic Heroes.

There is a cool playset pictured above that features Andy’s room, Pizza Planet, and what looks like the Garage Sale. I can see these small Toy Story figures being the perfect toys to pick up for desk decorations. Most of these toys were based just on Toy Story, so it looks like toys from Toy Story 2 like Jessie, Stinky Pete, and Bullseye will not be out for a little while longer.

There is also a game that involves the aliens from Pizza Planet, as well as a 3 pack of alien figures, which are very cool. The store I was in didn’t feature any of the large Woody dolls, so I’m not sure if they are not released yet or if that store just didn’t have any in stock. They may also be considered in a second wave that has yet to be released.

And of course, the rest of the lineup includes RC, Mr. Potato Head, and various other versions of all the characters, but I did not see these in the store yet. If you run into any in your local department stores, drop me a line! Between the Toy Story Collection and the Toy Story LEGO sets, it’s going to be a great year for Pixar toys!

Pixar SDCC 2009 Roundup

Well, while I was vacationing in another city in California, the San Diego Comic-Con was going on, and a lot of great Pixar news was building up in my RSS reader. After getting home and sorting through it all, I thought it would be valuable to share all the links I found interesting.

SlashFilm has great interviews with John Lasseter (featuring a surprise appearance by Hayao Miyazaki) and Lee Unkrich.
The Toy Story/Toy Story 2 3D double-feature teaser trailer is now online.
Finally, some Up toys!
Disney Etc. has a great roundup of the amazing looking Toy Story LEGO sets that are coming out soon. I will be honest, I never thought that Toy Story LEGO could look that awesome. I will be extremely broke when these come out.
